Cathy Barton and Dave Para first heard the mix of traditional and contemporary folk music in childhood during the "folk scare" of the 1960s. Cathy made her first of many trips to the Ozark Folk Center in 1973, where she befriended most of the older traditional singers and players congregating there in Mountain View, Ark., and eventually Dave went with her. Both spent many pleasant days accompanying old-time fiddlers here in Central Missouri and around the U.S. They have always kept their ears open for a good new song, and their friendship with Bob Dyer made that effort pretty easy. The duo have spent a good part of the past year producing "The Wandering Fool: Songs by Bob Dyer Sung in Tribute by his Friends," which was released April 1.
