Leela and Ellie Grace played a concert set here in 2002 but participated many other years, dancing or playing in the finale or performing with their parents, Paul & Win — all of which was part of their raising by professional musicians on equal parts hippie rock 'n roll and old-time music. Their contact with master players around the U.S. helped ensure their grounding in traditional styles, but they also have ably pursued the creative paths of contemporary songwriters. The results feature original songs that are musically complex and showcase their soaring harmonies. Leela reports increased facility in her writing. Their work with traditional instruments banjo, mandolin, guitar and fiddle keeps getting better; Ellie seems to have picked up a certain edge to her singing and dancing since her move to the Blue Ridge.
