Singing the blues with other folks is more fun than singing them by yourself, and perhaps the folksiest version of the blues band is the jug band. Even without the jug, the Kansas City Rain Dogs expand on the sounds of the country blues repertoire and include some of those easy-singing jug-band favorites. When Jim Herbert, Karla Peterie, Mike Roark and Phil Smith all sing together, good times reach down to your soul. They use acoustic and resophonic guitars, washboard, mandolin, bass, harmonica and piano for a variety of textures.
