A Rich Double Blend

A friend in Kansas wrote us a couple of years ago and suggested that Steve Gillette and Cindy Mangsen would be perfect for the Big Muddy, and we couldn't agree more, since our festival presents folk music in both traditional and contemporary styles. Cindy is a well-respected singer of traditional songs, known for letting her rich warm voice convey a ballad with simplicity. Sometimes her voice and concertina blend like cocoa and cream. Steve has been writing songs successfully in the commercial world for three decades. His songs like "Darcy Farrow" and "Back on the Street Again" have been recorded by diverse artists as John Denver, Linda Ronstadt, Tammy Wynette and Garth Brooks. Their collaboration has opened Cindy's vocal repertoire to the country side of contemporary folk song and has brought Steve back closer to the old roots of folk music that inspired him in the first place. And Steve's guitar playing is very lovely.
