Hammers and Rags

Peterson's Original Ragtime Band

We shouldn't have worried about Y2K: In 1997 the first century of ragtime turned over, and no one was affected by anything but fun. Peterson's Original Ragtime Band comes from Little Rock, led by hammered dulcimer player and builder David Peterson. Classic rags take some work to transcribe on the hammered dulcimer, and David has made a special study of it for years. His wife, Donna, sings and plays guitar, and their son Chris plays fiddle for that nice, period melodic style. Banjoist Scott Odena and bass player Grover Smith round out this ensemble ragtime sound which made its third appearance at the Scott Joplin International Ragtime Festival in Sedalia last year. David and Donna are also fine dancers and dance organizers in Arkansas. David will be calling the dance Friday evening after the concert.
