"Rustic Renaissance Man"

John McCutcheon

One of the most versatile and dynamic entertainers in folk music today, John McCutcheon has balanced an uncanny act of musicianship, songwriting, storytelling and social activism, and he continues to do all those things very well. John took to hitchhiking in the Appalachians with his banjo during his college years and made that rich folk culture his home. From old-time masters he learned seven different instruments and emerged as one of the best hammered dulcimer players in the U.S. At square dances, church halls and union halls, John honed an engaging and vivid performance style and then took his solo road show to four continents. He has 25 albums of his own credit and has produced more for other artists. His most recent albums have focused on his own songwriting, which continues to draw from his deep knowledge of folk music. And he does all of this in a context for family audiences.
